Choosing an American Mahjong set

An American Mahjong set is built for the game played from the National Mah Jongg League card. That means at least 152 playing tiles, including eight jokers and eight flowers. Many sets, ours included, add extra jokers and blank tiles. A set without jokers is likely designed for another style of the game.

Beyond the essentials, choose a set the way you would choose anything for your home: by how it looks on the table, how the tiles feel in your hand, and how easily you can read them from across the table.
