Everyday care
- Play with clean, dry hands. Hand lotion and food leave a film on tiles over time.
- Wipe after each game. A soft, dry, lint-free cloth (microfiber is ideal) keeps tiles bright.
- Store your set closed. Keep tiles in their case or bag, away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.
A deeper clean
Every so often, or whenever tiles feel less than fresh, give them a gentle wash.
- Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and add a drop of mild dish soap.
- Dip a soft cloth, wring it out well, and wipe each tile. The cloth should be damp, not wet.
- For engraved designs, use a soft toothbrush with a very light touch.
- Wipe again with a cloth dampened in plain water to remove any soap.
- Dry each tile right away, then lay the tiles face up on a towel until completely dry before packing them away.
What to avoid
- Soaking tiles, or putting them in the dishwasher
- Bleach, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasive cleaners, which can dull the finish or fade painted engravings
- Scouring pads or rough sponges
- Hair dryers or other direct heat
Racks and pushers
Wipe racks and pushers with a soft, damp cloth and dry them right away. Avoid harsh cleaners, and never leave them in a hot car or on a sunny windowsill.
Mats
Always follow the care label on your mat. In general, shake it out or brush it gently after play, spot-clean with mild soap and water, and let it dry flat away from heat. Rolling a mat for storage, rather than folding it, helps avoid creases.
Storage and travel
- Count before you pack. A quick check of your jokers and flowers after each game catches a missing tile before it’s lost for good.
- Travel padded. A fitted bag or case protects tiles on the way to a friend’s game. Avoid stacking heavy things on top.
- Mind the temperature. Keep your set away from radiators, sunny windows, and the trunk of a car in summer.
Always follow any care instructions that come with your particular set.
